Google will no longer index url’s ending with ‘0’

It seems that these days one cannot help but panic whenever Google does something new, the latest ‘unofficial’ move by Google was to remove all the url’s ending with ‘0’ from its index. Seomoz shared this piece of information publicly and so I am making this post based on that. Of course, one could ask why all the fuss if a url ends with zero or not, well, according to seomoz, this is mainly on account of the spammy pages as most of them end with the same, that is 0.

Therefore listing a page nowadays with a ‘0’ as a suffix becomes near to impossible, at least with Google. So let us just say that you have a website that had been indexed with Google and has a page rank of 4, the website url being www.xxe.com/web2.0, chances are that by now, your website would no longer have a pagerank and in addition, would no longer be indexed in Google.

There is no need to panic, all you would have to do is to resolve this issue with Google but seeing how long that they can take to respond to simple queries, it may well be some time before your site gets re-indexed again. If you are planning to create a site with the url ending in ‘0’, do not bother as it is not worth the trouble. For most of us, this may seem like a case of semantics gone silly, but then again, since we are not in the drivers seat, we will have to toe the line especially if we want to stay indexed.

Mobile SEO Agenda

Having problems getting the users to your site? Have you thought about reaching out to mobile users?

With so many users accessing sites form their mobile phones, this is something that all web masters should take seriously. Sites need to be accessed and found via mobile networks.

First, make your site mobile friendly. Use basic HTML and CSS. Always test your site either using a mobile device or through one of the many add ons for different browsers. If you site is a blog, there are different software packages that can be purchased to make the blog mobile friendly.

After making your site mobile friendly, you need to think about SEO. Although similar to typical regular SEO, there are a few differences. All coding must be XHTML 1.0 validated to ensure that there are no coding errors. Make sure that your site is accessible. Tips for this can be found on the W3C site.

Granted, this is not the most popular way for people to access the web still, but you will be reaching users who are on the go. With people working more away from the office or on the road, this is a crucial audience.

JohnCow up for Sale (Again) !

Well, it seemed inevitable that when JohnCow.com was put up for sale that someone would scoop a bargain. However, it seems that the sale of the site is going to be harder than initially thought. The first BIN price offered of $50,000 was accepted (http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/33878) and it seemed that the site had a new owner.

However, the sale proved to be too easy. The buyer turned out to be a fortunist looking to buy the site for a discounted sale of $35,000 on the basis that the traffic and revenue were dubious !

So the site has been put back up for sale (http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/34101). I know one thing….If I had $45,000, I would snap this one up in an instant….

Thanks for reading… ;)

Search Engine Optimization Tips for Google

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

With the recent Jagger update settling, many people find their sites no longer have the high rankings they had for so long enjoyed prior to the latest Google update.

So, the sites that lost these rankings are scrambling to find some answers as to why their site dropped. While it’s my business to know the intricacies of how this particular update impacted the search algorithm, there are some common ground starting points that if you apply these to all of your sites, you should be able to survive any update intact.

  • Proper naming structure
  • Name your page titles with your keywords if possible
  • Always have a sitemap
  • Always include a robots.txt file
  • If you must use a re-direct, be sure it’s server side, not with a meta refresh tag
  • Don’t use hidden text
  • Make sure your keyword phrase is included in your H1 tags
  • Don’t optimize for more than 2 keywords per page
  • Use text links where possible
  • In any product image, be sure to use the alt tag
  • Use hyphens, not underscores when you name a page file
  • Make sure your site has an error handling page
  • Create a Google Sitemap and submit it to them (This is in addition to a typical sitemap)
  • Offload all your js and css code
  • Don’t forget about meta tags

Be sure to follow these simple guidelines and you won’t need to worry too much anytime Google has an update - your site will not be impacted by any filters that are checking for spamming, hidden text, or anything that resembles cloaking.

How To Achieve Pagerank 5 For Your Website For Free !

There are many small business owners doing ecommerce online who are struggling, trying to increase their top page rank ratings. This is very time consuming and expensive. A lot of ecommerce businesses do not have a budget to allow them to take advantage of link buying, or other endeavors to increase the page rank ratings they need to make the money the big guns do.

How do you build a website for PR0 to PR2?

Here are some helpful hints that will work for you to get a top page rank on Google.

Get a private domain name. This is essential in this business. Be online for a few months. Make sure you change your content regularly, at least once a week. Have at least fifty inbound links that work.

This next step is tricky but not difficult. Have between 50 to 100 plus articles on your site. Submit your website to all of the necessary directories. Begin to link your website in the forums. Become a member of Google’s PayPerClick Program. Google will welcome you with open arms. You invest twenty dollars to join Google’s PPC program once. Done correctly, you will get back this small investment within a few short months.

It is a wonderful idea to make friends with Google. It is the number one search engine right now. Google’s index spiders search the internet, finding sites to rank them against relevance. This takes some time for the spiders to do their job, sometimes up to several months, so have patience because it will take a few months for your site to get indexed.

Google’s spiders can become confused if you do not use the correct keywords to optimize your site. Make sure you use the correct keywords and keyword phrases to describe what your website is all about, otherwise those nasty spiders will run and hide. In fact, they may not see your site again for another few months. So get the keywords right and your site reflects those keywords.

A page rank of 5 can be reached by generating at least 10,000 links. This sounds daunting but it is not impossible. When you have 200 pages of content with each page having thirty or more links to other pages, those inside links will generate 6,000. Google’s spiders will count the links inside the site because the size of your website is just as important as the links inside of it. This is especially valid when all of your website’s content is alike.

This method will work for you, but you will have to be patient and allow some time to pass. Give it a few months, then begin checking at Google to see where your page rank is. From here, you will have a good idea in a few weeks if it is moving up, or down in page rank. If it is moving down, then you need to tweak your site, or adjust the keywords and keyword phrases.

The competition for page rank in Google is stiff. There are other search engines to use. In order to find out how the other engines page rank, you will need to go to their sites and garner all the information that is available, then look online for tips and tricks to manipulate these engines to your advantage.

Search Engine Optimization Tips and Tricks

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

Link Popularity, Adding content and meta tags all working together is what gives you good positioning in search engines. The first thing that is looked at by a search engine would be the Link Popularity. Basically it is someone elses site haveing a link or path to get to your site. Your site is populare because of how many other sites know of it. Trading links sole purpose is for YOUR OWN site to gain placement on search engines such as GOOGLE, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves and MSN.

Easy ways to get involved in link Popularity:

1) Linking to directories: like Directory Revolution, DMOZ and others. Linking with directories is a great way to find sites like yours and who are willing to trade links because most people who have signed up for a directory usually understand the importance of “Link Popularity”

2)Search Google for keywords that describe your practice and/or location. For Web sites that are well ranked. Where appropriate, submit your Web site to those Web sites.

3)Create a link to me page: Create a page on your site to notify others that you are aware of the benefits of link popularity and are looking for link partners. Once you start adding links to your site be sure to come up with a good management system for keeping in track of those who have linked and those who have not.

4)Download and use the Google Toolbar to track the popularity and traffic rank of your Web site, as well as other Web sites of interest. Click here to download the google toolbar.Click here to download the google toolbar.

How to give your site exposure.

Does your site read well?

Keyword Density is how many search words are mentioned on your page. For example if your site is about real estate in Orange County then your Target Keyword should be “Orange County Real Estate” Now this phrase should be mentioned within your pages at least 3-8% of the total text that is on that page. This is how a search engine can tell what your site’s content and how to index you in a search.

Here are some examples of sites that use good keyword density.

Drew and Linda Hartanov Beth Daly Ron Zemetres There is a fine line between spamming a search engine by repeatedly typing in “Orange County Real Estate” and the 3-8% which that text should appear. If you are ever in doubt you can use tools like This free Keyword Density Analyzer. Here are a few site examples to see what other busy people just like you are doing for keyword density.

Keyword Density

Keyword density is important since search engines use this information to categorize a site’s theme, and to determine which terms this site is relevant to — the perfect keyword density will help archive higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly (too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might get flagged for ‘keyword-spamming’).

Keyword density is the ratio of a keyword or key phrases to the total number of words on that page. It is one of the most critical aspects of successful search engine optimization. To improve your search engine ranking potential, your keyword density must be just right. To calculate your keyword density, divide the total number of words on your page by the number of times your primary keyword or key phrase appears. Keyword density is critical when outlining the keyword portion of your search engine optimization strategy.

Naturally, there is a fine line between strategically scattering these keywords throughout your content versus grouping them all together, separated by commas. The latter is known as spamming and you will get penalized for doing it. Don’t think you can fool the search engines —- they have the technology to figure out these little tricks.

1) Incorporate your Meta tags into your keyword phrases on your site. People often forget that search engines will spider the heading Meta tags first because they proceed and stand out from your main site content.

2) Write keyword-rich content that not only satisfies the search engine algorithms but is equally informative for customers visiting your site. This is the most difficult part of writing your content - but also the most critical.

3) Try to write at least 300 words for each page on your site. Again, the more content you have the better chance you will have to include those all-important keywords you diligently researched and ultimately selected.

4) Too often we see content saturated with too many keywords that, as popular as they may be, just don’t relate to the site itself. Avoid doing this - it will only irritate potential customers.

The Right Ratio The most essential part of optimizing keyword density is using the correct ratio of keywords-total words on your page. Keyword density ratios are discussed as a percentage. A good range for keyword density for a target keyword is 2% to 6%. Meaning, when you divide the number of times you used a keyword on your page by the total number of words on your page you should get a percent somewhere between 2 and 6.

The Wrong Ratio Having a too high or too low keyword density can be to your page’s detriment. If the density is too low your page will be considered an irrelevant result for that keyword phrase. But don’t be fooled into thinking a higher keyword density equals a more relevant result. Search engines combat spam pages by penalizing pages with a too high keyword density, or keyword: total word ratio.

Meta What????

What is a Meta Tag? A meta tag is a hidden description about your site solely used for web crawlers to help catagorize and index your site in a search.

Do’s and Don’ts for meta tag use.

Some dos and don’ts:

Do use keyword research tools like Overture’s Search Suggestion tool and Wordtracker to find 2-3 word key phrases to target.

Do use 3-4 keywords or 2-3 keyword phrases in the Title Tag - the most critical tag for rankings. Remember the words farthest to the left have more “weight.” You might want to move the company name to the end, unless it includes targeted keywords.

Do create keyword combinations specific to each page on your site based on the page text. Think in terms of themes or subcategories. Example, if you have a garden e-commerce site, for the “bulbs” page use specific keywords like: fall bulbs supplier, tulip bulbs, flowering bulbs.

Do change your meta tags seasonally to include holidays and seasonal changes. Start about 6 weeks before the targeted month or holiday to ensure time for the search engines to pick up the changes in time.

Don’t stuff keywords into your tags. More is not always better and can get you banned.

Don’t use the same word more than 3 times in the keyword meta tag, and avoid using the same word consecutively. By omitting commas, you can create more combinations and avoid overusing the same words.

Don’t target generic, one-word keywords with extreme competition, for example, gardens or gardening.

Don’t make your title tag one long string of keywords. Make it a readable sentence or phrase.

Meta tags can help you round out your rankings in addition to other factors like page content (important) and link popularity. Do your research and use them wisely. They may not be dead, but meta tags certainly are a part of the overall picture in SEO.

6 Steps To Picking Profitable Adsense Keywords

Knowing how to find the best keywords for use in your Adsense ads is not a straightforward process. Finding and implementing high profit, low competition keywords in your ads really is the trick for making Adsense payoff big. The following process should yield profitable, low competition keywords for your Adsense ads. This process is not perfect, but when you analyze it and try it for yourself, you can see that it makes sense. Adsense that is.

Step 1
Research some keywords for your niche that have a high CPC value. To do this, first find your keywords using the Google Adwords keyword tool or another tool that will give you niche specific lists of keywords. Save those keywords into a spreadsheet program as a csv file. Copy and paste those keywords into Google’s Traffic Estimator (you will need an Adwords account). The traffic estimator will give you the estimated clicks per day and the average cost per click (CPC) for each keyword. Copy and paste this information back into your spreadsheet file for later reference.

Step 2
Multiply the average CPC by 30% to get an estimate of your maximum earnings per click. The higher the average CPC, the more likely the CPC for the 2nd - 8th positions are high as well. You want this higher average CPC to start because if the CPC starts to drop off significantly after the 3rd position, your chance of getting high click earnings as an Adsense publisher will be diminished.

Step 3
Use any one of many tools available on the internet for helping to estimate the 1st - 8th position CPC values. These tools will estimate the CPCs for each position and allow you to see how much the CPCs drop off after the first position. This dramatically helps your analysis for picking the most profitable keywords. If the CPC values stay close to the each other and to the value of the first position, then you will more than likely have a profitable keyword.

Step 4
Now determine which Adsense ads occupy which positions. You can do this by searching on Google for your keyword and looking to see which Adsense ads are generated in the search results and in which order they are. Another way to estimate this is to use the Adwords Accelerator tool. It has a feature whereby Adwords ads are dynamically displayed for a given keyword you input into the tool to check. If the Adwords advertiser has used “Adwords for Content” in his advertising, these ads will be the Adsense ads someone else is displaying on their website.

Step 5
Compare the ads you found in step 4 to the results of using a keyword check function tool (available on the internet). If the advertisers you find by doing this closely match those you found in step 4, you will more than likely have a profitable keyword. If the advertisers are not he same, then the advertiser is possibly not using the “Adwords for Content” mode of advertising in his campaigns. This means that the keyword may not be the basis for the Adsense ads and may not be profitable.

Step 6
Now you must get the traffic. If you decide to get traffic using the Adwords approach, then just use the keywords in your Adsense ads that scored well from the above evaluation. Then, use lower cost per click keywords in your Adwords ads. The difference between the earnings from the click you get on your Adsense word from the cost of the click you pay on your Adwords word will be your profit. If you are planning to use search engine optimization techniques to get traffic to the website where your ads are, make sure the keywords you choose have the highest KEI possible. KEI is the ratio of the number of searches for a keyword to the number of competing sites having the keyword. The combination of a high KEI and a high score from the above evaluation will yield the best profit results.

100+ Untapped Link Building Strategies

Files under Link Building | 1 Comment

There are an unlimited number of ways to obtain high-quality backlinks. You’ve probably heard about many of them, including social bookmarking, linkbait, guest posting, directory submissions, press releases, etc. etc. etc…

Thankfully, we won’t be talking about those regurgitated strategies today. Instead, I have compiled over 100 out-of-the-box strategies to increase your link popularity and send tons of traffic your way.

This article contains all of my link building secrets, so I suggest you take some time to digest it. Grab some herbal tea (or Redbull) , whichever one works best for you, and don’t forget to bookmark the article for future reference.

The first juicy link building tactic is to create your own Ebay blog. Did you know you can
get backlinks directly from Ebay? That’s right. Ebay provides their members with their own personal blogs. Take a look at SEO superstar, Jim Boykin’s eBay blog. Notice the contextual links within the article which include his desired anchor text. If you check the source code, you will also find that these links are followed. You can create your own eBay blog and start building a few of your own high-powered links.

You can also build links with contests. Holding a blog contest is a great way to grow your blog’s audience, build inbound links, and improve your search engine presence. John Chow and John Cow have both used contests to rapidly increase his blog popularity.

You can promote your contest through the following sites…

Contest Blogger
ThePrizeBlog
ContestHound
DisregardMe
ReviewWow
MyBlogContest
TheLinkBait
ContestBeat
Blog-Contests
TheContestWinner
MyBlogContests
AboutBlogContest
ContestBlogcat
Contester
SubmitYourContest

Overall, contests are one of the best ways to generate buzz, backlinks, and new readers. Ben Cook has written an excellent article on what hosting a blog contest can do for you.

CSS galleries are another untapped source of traffic and links. FreelanceSwitch.com has received over 25,000 visitors from CSS Galleries . If you have a savvy CSS design, be sure to submit it to all of the major CSS galleries.

CSSMania
CSSRemix
BestWebGallery
WebCreme
CSSElite
CSSDrive
CSSHeaven
CSSTux
CSSGlobe
CoolHomePages
Each of these sites can send you quick and easy traffic.

Another site that can send you some good traffic is KillerStartups. They review over 30 internet startups every day. This is an excellent link opportunity and an excellent traffic strategy considering that the site has an Alexa ranking of 5,255 at the time of this writing. You can submit your site to http://www.killerstartups.com/submitted/.

Lists are another great way to build some quality inbound links to your website. No, I’m not talking about creating resource lists for social media sites like Digg and del.icio.us. I’m talking about building links with sites like listible.com.

Listible is a Web 2.0 property that allows you to create lists of resources. By joining the
community, you can create your own list and add resources to existing lists. Where
appropriate, you can add your own link, but remember to add value to the community first. Become a valued contributor to the site before you start posting your own links.

You can use this same strategy on the following sites…

Listverse
ListafterList
Listphile
OnmyList
Whatali.st

Here’s a technique that I was hesitant to share, but I’ve decided to trust my readers not to abuse the following information.

During some of my recent research, I discovered a hidden linking technique on Flickr. This discovery came to me while studying the backlinks of Glitter-Graphics.com. If you examine their backlinks on Yahoo Site Explorer, you will find that a large portion of their backlinks come from Flickr.

For example, here’s one Flickr page that contains their link…
http://www.flickr.com/photos/95572727@N00/211239773

Ok, so where’s the link? If you scroll down the page a bit, you will find a butterfly flapping it’s wings. That butterfly is actually a link to http://www.glitter-graphics.com.

Here’s the source code for the link:

<a href=”http://www.glitter-graphics.com”><img src=”http://dl6.glitter-graphics.net/pub/10/10666z5mfbj3yf7.gif” alt=”myspace layouts, myspace codes, glitter graphics” height=”50″ width=”100″></a>

They were even able to include their keywords in the alt tag.

You might also notice that this Flickr page is a pr 4… Not bad.

Ok. I don’t want to spoil any more of the fun. I’ll let your imagination determine how you
might use this nifty little trick.

Speaking of tricks, here’s another interesting find. It’s called Cool Site of the Day. This site lists some of the most interesting sites from around the web. Best of all, you can submit your site as well if you think it’s up to snuff. Not only does this present an excellent link opportunity, but Cool Site of the Day is known for sending thousands of visitors to their featured sites.

If your site is chosen, it will be featured on the homepage and announced to their email list of over 150,000 subscribers.

Much like Digg, Cool Site of the Day also has a ripple effect. The featured sites are often picked up by journalists throughout the world. Some of the previously featured sites have been quoted on the BBC News website, featured in USA Today, picked up by radio stations and quoted in a number of other media outlets.

Sites similar to Cool Site of the Day that you can submit to include…

CoolPick
AskMen
CSOTD

Would you like to turn your blog posts into podcasts without having to do any extra work? Well, I can’t see why you wouldn’t because doing this offers your readers a new and unique way to absorb your content, not to mention a ton of new link opportunities.

One of my favorite tools, Odiogo.com, will instantly give your blog a voice. Odiogo will automatically convert your RSS feeds, text articles and blog posts to iPod-ready audio files. Once you’ve installed their free service, you can then submit your new podcast to all of the podcast directories, generating tons of new backlinks to your site. If you sell software, you can generate 1,000s of links by distributing demos of your software to directories across the Web. All you have to do is convert your demo software into what’s called a PAD file . You can create your PAD file using a free PAD generation tool known as PADGen.

You can then submit your PAD file to over 1,000 download websites.

If you want, you can automate this process at SubmitMySoft.

Utilizing this technique will bring you lots of high quality links and can also increase your sharware sales.

Keep in mind that you can distribute a number of different types of files on download sites, including screensavers, widgets, toolbars, Firefox extensions, Internet Explorer Add-ons, and much more. Get creative with your marketing strategies.

You can use a similar technique to distribute a demo of your software, pdf ebooks, videos, and audios to torrent sites.

Submit your content to the top 35 torrent sites.

Michelle MacPhearson has a step-by-step guide to getting traffic with torrents on her website. I strogly suggest that you check it out and start benefiting from this unique traffic and link building strategy.

Social media campaigns are one of the best ways to build links. Unfortunately, most marketers are still not taking advantage of the many benefits provided by a strategic social media campaign. In 2008, viral marketing will be one of the best ways to generate hundreds of inbound links, increase your search engine rankings, increase your RSS subscribers, and build buzz for your website.

Some of the best social bookmarking sites for sending a flood of traffic to your website include Digg, Del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, Reddit, and Propeller. However, keep in mind that there are also a number of niche social bookmarking sites and upcoming stars like Mixx.com that can send hundreds of targeted visitors to your site.

Andy Hagan provides the Top 29 Niche Social Media Sites (That Actually Send Traffic) on his blog.

Best of all, you can leverage these smaller social bookmarking sites to help you get to the front page of the major players like Digg and Del.icio.us. In fact, vandelaydesign.com has a step-by-step guide on how to do exactly that.

For an extensive list of social bookmarking sites, check out this list. You’ve probably heard about building links with Youtube, but you may not have uncovered this unique strategy revealed by Neil Patel.

Basically, if you embed one of the YouTube videos on your website, they link back if you are one of the top 5 sites to drive traffic to a particular YouTube video. A link from YouTube is a good link, regardless of whether it’s no follow or not. People get way too
hung up on the whole “no follow” deal. The key is to build links where it makes sense.

Website reviews are another way to generate some excellent inbound links and get valuable feedback on your website.

Another site I like to submit my articles to is Work.com. This is a very valuable site to
get backlinks from, especially if your website is related to business or marketing.

Search Engine Journal has an excellent article on how to add Work.com to your link building campaign.

One of the best linking strategies that people take for granted is the power of their own internal link structure.

I suggest that you read the SEO Fast Start Guide by Dan Thies to learn about optimal internal linking within your own website.

Simply by optimizing your internal link structure, you can increase your search engine
rankings.

Do you have an ecommerce website? If so, here’s a list of sites where you canlist your products.

Wikis are another excellent source of inbound links. The key is to become a valuable
contributor of the community before you drop any of your links into related articles.

Here’s a comprehensive list of wikis you can start contributing to.

Another one of my favorite link building techniques is interviews. Interviewing other
bloggers can generate lots of buzz and incoming links. One blogger who has benefited greatly from interviews is Leo from ZenHabits.com.

Neil Patel provides some excellent tips on how to leverage interviews for links and traffic.

Don’t be afraid to ask for an interview. I promise, most bloggers don’t bite ;)

Hold on to your seat, because I’ve saved one of the best link building tips for last.

It’s known as widget marketing. Widgets are mini internet applications that are offered via a 3rd party. They can easily be integrated into web pages, Facebook profiles, iGoogle start pages, and more.

Because of this, a widget can spread your link to thousands of other websites.

The web is quickly becoming a world of widgets. Amazon.com has their own widget to let customers show off their favorite Amazon products. USA Today offers a widget that enables bloggers to display the latest new updates.

Why shouldn’t you have one also? If you don’t know how to program, don’t worry. You can instantly turn your blog into a widget at WidgetBox.com.

Blue Hat SEO has released an interesting article on how to use widgets to funnel hundreds of links and visitors into your sites.

You can promote your widgets on the following websites…

Widgepedia
Google Widget Directory
Yahoo Widgets
WidgetBox
SpringWidgets
Widget Gallery
Snipperoo Widget Directory
RateitAll Widgets
Friendster Widget Directory
Netvibes Widget Diretory
Xanga Widget Directory

You can also turn your widget into a Facebook app with App Accelerator. Popular Facebook applications can send thousands of visitors to your site per day. It’s just a matter of being creative and taking action.

Start implementing some of these strategies, and you will quickly see increases in your traffic and search engine rankings. Taking action on just ONE strategy each day can make an incredible difference.

If you know of other untapped linking strategies, please feel free to share them in the comments below.

Social Networking and SEO

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

The best way to start all of this is to sign up to different Social Networking sites such as Myspace or Facebook. It is quick, easy and very painless in signing up and getting started with your profile.

There are many premade layouts, themes and skins for Myspace so if you are not the best with web design and CSS you can use one of these and edit it but be sure to include plenty of back links to your website all over the page using anchor text for keywords for your site.

Once you have built your profile / page you have to remember you need to keep up to date with other users and especially people who visit your page.

The best way to do this is to constantly add new content which is relevant to the people / audience who view your profile to keep them interesting and maybe adding you as a friend (There is a link to your profile, in return links to your site from there)

Relationships With Other Community Members

Just having a profile on these sites will help you with SEO slightly you can get involved with discussions and debates about certain things. If your website is based on say “Computer Repair” then take a look for articles, posts and forums within this niche. If somebody has a problem with their PC then try your best to help them out. This will not only get a back link to your site but it will also give a great representation of your services to other members and you can maybe sneak a few keywords in here or there along the way.

So I Have Many Friends, Now What?

Once you have built up relationships with other members you can start to advertise to them with things like Bulletins. I don’t suggest you go onto all of their profiles and leave comments with big pictures saying “Hey, have you seen our new site” as people will just get annoyed with you.

If you use press releases within Bulletins then it is a great way to let hundreds of people see your articles and content which will in turn persuade them to take a look at your site (You can also sneak another couple of backlinks in there)

Using Facebook for SEO

Facebook is great in the way that it sends out alerts everytime you make even the slightest change to your profile. If you add a picture, add a comment or do anything it will tell everybody about it.

This means when you update a link, everybody will be told about it and 95% of the time if they are your friend they will take a look at it to see what you have been up to (People are nosey like that)

As well as having school friends, work colleagues you can also do a search for people by interests etc. So if you run a band website you can do a search to see who likes the same band and keep them up to date with new articles on yoru site which they will be keen to read. This type of traffic is the best sort because it is genuine traffic and people have an interest in the content.

Link Building Guide & Introduction

Link Building is a painstaking process which is always on going. To get your website high in the rankings you will need to constantly be building backlinks with things such as link exchanges, article submissions, directory submissions, press releases and social networking.

In this guide we will give you a few tips on the best methods to start off with link building.

Link Exchanges

Link Exchanges are a great way to get back links to your site from other sites with the same topic. This means that people who are visiting will be looking for a certain type of website which your site will be so they are more than likely to use your website to it’s full potential rather than browse for a minute and move on.

You can get Link Exchanges by browsing for sites in the same genre as yours and sending emails to webmasters saying why you think it will help their site to have reciprocal links on the 2 sites and will help generate traffic.

Article Submissions

If you write quality articles then people will want to read them. If you submit these to Article Directories then people will see how good your content is, and come over to your site to have a look at your other articles.

Make sure in the articles you have a link back to your site with the link text (anchor text) the keywords related to your site.

This is now doing 2 things, it is link building and helping with traffic back to your site when people click these links.

Directory Submissions

Submitting to web directories is a never ending task although it is probably the single most important way of link building. Make sure you start submitting your site to directories gradually rather than adding to 500 directories one day and then not bothering for a month. This is because Google and other search engines will think something fishy is going on if a site suddenly gets 500 backlinks.

The best thing to do is when you do it gradually is to add to say 100 directories to get you started and then every couple of days add to 20 more.

There are a lot of tools on the market for automatic directory submission but the best way is to add these manually because you never know what information a “bot” will use when it adds your site to all of those directories.

There are some of the best directories below with their PR (Google Page Rank) listed next to them.

http://www.dmoz.org 9
http://www.lii.org/pub/htdocs/home.htm 8
http://www.femina.com 7
http://www.gogreece.com 7

http://www.worldhot.com/ 7
http://www.123india.com/ 7

http://www.canadianeh.com 6
http://www.aardvark.co.za 6
http://www.nzs.com/ 6
http://www.aigam.com 6

Social Networking

Social Networking is a great tool for link building. If you are a user of Facebook or Myspace you will be able to build links back to your site quickly with bulletins, shared articles and other things to be able to gain lots of links and huge amounts of traffic.

If you are an advanced coder you will be able to code something like a Facebook Application which will be able to “give” the Facebook community something in return for your link being on their profile which could then be anything betweeen 1 and 1 million backlinks (Depending on how popular the application is)

Social Bookmarking

As well as Social Networking there is also Social Bookmarking (Confusing, huh?)

This is where you can share your favourite sites with friends and other internet users which can generate links and traffic.

There are many places where you can exchange social bookmarks with other people to add that extra link and when done hundreds of times again, builds backlinks.

The most popular Social Bookmarking sites are:

http://del.icio.us/ 8
http://www.digg.com/ 8
http://www.furl.net/ 8
http://www.diigo.com/ 6

Remember that Link Building is a very important process so put a couple of hours a week aside to go through and buid a few more back links or even pay somebody else to do this for you.

How to beat competitors using SEO

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

It does not matter what your business does, it will have competitors. If it is from selling baby clothes to web design there will always be people trying to be cheaper and better than you. If they are online they will be fighting with you for that number one spot in Google and to be able to beat them, you must know how to successfully compete.

Search Engine Optimization is a hugely important way in which you can compete with your competitors online but to be able to do these you need to know who you are up against just as much as you know about your products and services.

You have to take a look at competitor’s sites and come up with a list of all of the sites that may be selling the same thing or offering the same services. Look out for the ones at the top of search engine lists as these are the ones that are obviously doing well. While you are on the site be sure to take a look at the design, keywords used and anything else that could make this site the top of Google. You could also do a cheeky check of their back links with a back link checker to see where they are linked to, and maybe as for your link to be on there too.

When you have done your research you should then start to search for ways to increase the SEO Value of your site by thinking of better keywords that will be more effective, different content, maybe a new layout that is SEO friendly and anything else that you can think of to make you stand out above your competitor. This may take some time and it is not a one off, you need to do this regularly to stay better than the rest.

As well as trying to look at other’s ideas you should try to come up with things that your competitors haven’t thought of yet. Different and new ideas will increase your position and ranking but make sure this is tested and successful before you depend too much on it.

Keep going over your research findings and decide what is good and what is lame and keep an eye on what your competitors are trying out. If you know your competitors you are halfway to being a success.

How to Design a Website for SEO

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

Here are a few tips that will help you design your website for SEO:

More Text: Search engine spiders catalog words – not flash videos, images or other media. Therefore, make sure you have enough text in your web pages for search engines to index. If you’re going to use above-mentioned materials in your web pages, be sure to give them ALT tags (i.e. alternative text).

Relevant Keywords: The quantity of words is not enough; quality also matters. Thus, be sure to include relevant keywords in your web pages’ text. This way, your web pages will be indexed and filed under relevant keywords and people who are doing a search using such relevant keywords have a greater chance of finding your website. Be sure to use these keywords in the ALT tags mentioned above.

Internal Links or Site Map: The way your web pages are connected is important. Make sure that your pages are logically (and semantically) connected through your internal links. This makes it easier for search engines to index all of your web pages and using the right keywords. Moreover, be sure there are no broken links in your site.

Back Links: The links that point toward your site is also important – especially if they come from websites which are indexed under keywords which are relevant to yours (i.e. semantically related to the keywords you’ve used in your site). The higher the rank (importance) of the web pages linking to your web pages, moreover, the bigger weight your pages gain for SEO.

Anchor Texts: In relation to the above, it would be better if links pointing towards your site are actually anchor texts. An anchor text like “tank tops” that points towards your online apparel store is more important than a link that says “http://www.nameofyourstore.com.”

Link Submitters

digiXMAS Directory Submitter - Using Paid Mode it will add your site to hundreds of directorys automatically with you just having to choose categories and entering CAPTCHA confirmations. Paid Mode costs $15 per site but if you have many sites this price will go down. This is a valuable tool with helping gain back links and many of the top Link Submission companies use this.

Free Mode will allow you to still add your link to many directories it is just a bit more time consuming as it is not fully automatic. You will have to manually go through each directory and check the details and then press submit, whereas Paid Mode does everything for you.

Article Submitters

digiXMAS Article Submitter - This is a great tool used for submitting articles to around 1000 article directories at the same time. It will register you to the directory, it will access your email and activate the registration and will then submit the article to many, many sites.

This is semi - automatic which means you will have to input CAPTCHA fields and choose some locations where you want your article to be shown but it is very speedy with the accuracy and detail of manual submissions.

The software is free but there is a small charge of around $10 per article for submission (Which is a steal for around 1000 article directory submissions)

RSS & Blog Submission

Submit Em Now - This will submit your blog & RSS feed to over 100 directories. Great for backlink building.

7 Steps Linking For Fun And Profit

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

Linking is the most basic way of getting high ranking in search engines now. Despite how search engine optimization changes, the number of links still decides your popularity. Other than that, it also enables you to receive a higher page rank, and that gives you an edge of earning an extra income, just by inserting a link to other websites.

If you want others to link to you, of course you need to provide very good or interesting content on your web site. If people doesn’t really care much about the content of the website, then it’s not worthy for them to give you a link.
Nevertheless, linking isn’t that hard after all, there are just a few simple steps that you need to take before requesting a link from the other sites:

1. If you want your site to deliver swarms of high targeted visitors, you need to get links from web sites with a higher popularity. First you need to get a Google toolbar from http://toolbar.google.com to know a page rank of a website - page rank indicates popularity, and from there you continue searching for good page rank sites.

2. So from where do you link to others? You need to create a new page or directory for linking purpose. This lets potential link partners see that you’re someone who is willing serious in exchanging links.

3. Get targeted linking! You should be building links from highly related sites instead of getting non-targeted links from any websites. If your site is about gardening, you wouldn’t want to exchange links with a website about fishing, it doesn’t help much.

4. Before you request a link from the other websites, put their links in your web site first. You must be extra polite in requesting for a reciprocal linking, give and you shall receive! It is the most important thing having a link to your potential link partner before them linking to you. People are often lazy to do things, and if you already have a link to your potential link partner’s site, not only it gives them motivation, it gives them an urge of linking back to you as well.

5. Follow up. If you have not received a reply after 2-3 days, send a polite follow up. Nevertheless, always be polite and don’t demand anything. When you do this right, most probably people will be glad to link to your site.

6. Exchange for only quality links. You don’t want link farms - sites with only links but no content, web sites with really low page ranks. Try and search for a websites with a minimum of 4-5 page rank, this way you ensure that you’ll have a quality page rank as well.

7. Try asking your linking partners to put a keyword targeted anchor text when linking to you. An anchor text is the text highlighted in blue and underline, and when you click on it you’ll be directed to another site. In other words, it’s the hyperlinked text.

Let’s assume that your website is about gardening, then kindly request your linking partners to link in this way: If you want to learn Gardening with Steve, you can visit his site about tips for Gardening and Botanical Plants. Notice the words “Gardening and Botanical Plants?” You kindly request your link partners to make that the anchor text when linking to you. Google will favor your site with highly related anchor texts! S

tart requesting links once your website is ready, everyday push yourself to request links from at least 2 webmasters, if all of them agrees, in a year you’ll have 730 quality links.

Content For Web Sites: Why Content Is King - And Where To Get Web Site Content

Getting content for web sites is one of the challenges every webmaster faces. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Content is king.” Have you ever wondered why content is king? And have you ever wished it was easier to find content for web sites?

Content is king for one reason: People surf for content. Each of the major search engines is only successful to the extent that it helps people find the web site content they are looking for. Whichever search engine helps people find that web site content the quickest becomes the most popular. The more popular the search engine is, the more money it makes from advertising.

That last paragraph contains the secret of why content is king. Search engines make money from advertising. And they make more money from advertising if they consistently help people find the web site content they are searching for.

Now that you know why content is King, the next question is: Where can you find content for web sites?

The two easiest sources for content for web sites are article directories and private label rights.

Article directories are huge directories of articles. In most cases, you are free to publish articles from the article directories on your web site and in your newsletters or ezines. Be sure to read each article directory’s terms of service, because some have limitations. But in general, article directories exist to give writers a place to publish their articles and to give publishers a place to get content for web sites and newsletters.

Article directories like EzineArticles.com and ElectricText.com provide content for web sites on almost any topic you need. You can also find hundreds of article directories that provide content for web sites with a simple search for “article directories” in any search engine.

There are two advantages to getting your web site content from article directories rather than from private label rights articles and eBooks:

1. Articles from article directories are normally free - you do not have to pay anything for the rights to publish the articles.

2. There are tens of thousands of articles available for web site content on virtually any topic you may need.

Private label rights can be acquired in a variety of ways. In general, private label rights mean you have the right to put your name on the product as the author. You can get private label rights articles, private label rights eBooks, even private label rights software and scripts.

For web site content, you want private label rights articles and eBooks. You can get private label rights articles and eBooks from membership web sites such as Gigantic Resale Rights.com that specialize in resale rights and private label rights products. You can use the articles for web site content more directly. And you can use many of the eBooks as content for web sites by breaking them up into articles or web pages.

There are two advantages to getting your web site content from private label rights articles and eBooks rather than from article directories:

1. Generally you can put your name as the author. You can include it as regular web content or as an article with your resource box at the end. Check the terms of service of the private label rights to determine your rights in using it as web site content.

2. Generally you can also (and in some cases must) edit and modify the text to make it unique. This is especially true if you have a private label rights eBook that grants you the rights to break it up into articles or pages as content for web sites. Again, be sure to check the terms of service of the private label rights to determine your rights.

Breaking up private label rights books into articles is a great way to get content for web sites. Why? Because it takes effort. Most people will not take the time and effort. If you do, you will have more unique content on your web site. Unique content is another aspect of “content is king.”
