Three SEO Tricks For Successful Search Engine Rankings

Search Engine Statistics – Constantly updated search engine usage statistics can take you a long way with SEO magic. Knowing who from where accesses what is key to spending your time and money on the right SEO strategies. If you can find some insider information by subscribing to a reputed SEO firm’s newsletter, it’s even better. Did you know over 72% of Google users click on organic listings, while only around 25% click on the PPC ad links? On MSN, this works in the opposite way, with most users clicking on paid ads than organic listings.

SEO Spying – Yes, you can do that by spending a few dollars. You’ll find out about who among your competitors has the largest SEO budget, gets more visits per day and more. SpyFu has developed a great way to check data the way you want it and even gives you the choice of downloading the data for analysis.

SEO Shortcuts – Buy an SEO-specialist software, which will help you automate most of the routine tasks. It’s not about cutting costs by buying the cheapest; it’s about buying the best value SEO tool to give you the best results. For less than $400, the purchase is more than worth the price.

Start-Up Businesses – Be Your Own SEO Guru!

Search engine optimization is no longer a matter of stuffing keywords in your content and adding a few meta tags. The search engines are wise to these tricks and there’s too much competition for a single keyword for this to be even remotely successful. So, with SEO experts charging thousands of dollars a month to share their expertise, how does a start-up business get excellent search engine results? By getting their own SEO training.

Sounds insanely simple, but unless you know the ins and outs of search engine optimization, the techniques and skills needed may elude you. But, not to worry. There are two fundamental approaches towards becoming your own SEO guru in less than a month. First, purchase a how-to book on SEO. You need to check the copyrights on it to make sure it’s not more than one year old. The average cost for such a book would be just over $20.

Next, search for a recommended SEO software package, often priced at around $150 or more. These SEO software applications analyze your web pages inside out and bring up results in comparison to your toughest competitors, and tell you how to beat them. iBusinessPromoter (IBP) is likely the best available in the market for a low budget.

Google will no longer index url’s ending with ‘0’

It seems that these days one cannot help but panic whenever Google does something new, the latest ‘unofficial’ move by Google was to remove all the url’s ending with ‘0’ from its index. Seomoz shared this piece of information publicly and so I am making this post based on that. Of course, one could ask why all the fuss if a url ends with zero or not, well, according to seomoz, this is mainly on account of the spammy pages as most of them end with the same, that is 0.

Therefore listing a page nowadays with a ‘0’ as a suffix becomes near to impossible, at least with Google. So let us just say that you have a website that had been indexed with Google and has a page rank of 4, the website url being www.xxe.com/web2.0, chances are that by now, your website would no longer have a pagerank and in addition, would no longer be indexed in Google.

There is no need to panic, all you would have to do is to resolve this issue with Google but seeing how long that they can take to respond to simple queries, it may well be some time before your site gets re-indexed again. If you are planning to create a site with the url ending in ‘0’, do not bother as it is not worth the trouble. For most of us, this may seem like a case of semantics gone silly, but then again, since we are not in the drivers seat, we will have to toe the line especially if we want to stay indexed.

Mobile SEO Agenda

Having problems getting the users to your site? Have you thought about reaching out to mobile users?

With so many users accessing sites form their mobile phones, this is something that all web masters should take seriously. Sites need to be accessed and found via mobile networks.

First, make your site mobile friendly. Use basic HTML and CSS. Always test your site either using a mobile device or through one of the many add ons for different browsers. If you site is a blog, there are different software packages that can be purchased to make the blog mobile friendly.

After making your site mobile friendly, you need to think about SEO. Although similar to typical regular SEO, there are a few differences. All coding must be XHTML 1.0 validated to ensure that there are no coding errors. Make sure that your site is accessible. Tips for this can be found on the W3C site.

Granted, this is not the most popular way for people to access the web still, but you will be reaching users who are on the go. With people working more away from the office or on the road, this is a crucial audience.

Search Engine Optimization Tips for Google

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

With the recent Jagger update settling, many people find their sites no longer have the high rankings they had for so long enjoyed prior to the latest Google update.

So, the sites that lost these rankings are scrambling to find some answers as to why their site dropped. While it’s my business to know the intricacies of how this particular update impacted the search algorithm, there are some common ground starting points that if you apply these to all of your sites, you should be able to survive any update intact.

  • Proper naming structure
  • Name your page titles with your keywords if possible
  • Always have a sitemap
  • Always include a robots.txt file
  • If you must use a re-direct, be sure it’s server side, not with a meta refresh tag
  • Don’t use hidden text
  • Make sure your keyword phrase is included in your H1 tags
  • Don’t optimize for more than 2 keywords per page
  • Use text links where possible
  • In any product image, be sure to use the alt tag
  • Use hyphens, not underscores when you name a page file
  • Make sure your site has an error handling page
  • Create a Google Sitemap and submit it to them (This is in addition to a typical sitemap)
  • Offload all your js and css code
  • Don’t forget about meta tags

Be sure to follow these simple guidelines and you won’t need to worry too much anytime Google has an update - your site will not be impacted by any filters that are checking for spamming, hidden text, or anything that resembles cloaking.

Search Engine Optimization Tips and Tricks

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

Link Popularity, Adding content and meta tags all working together is what gives you good positioning in search engines. The first thing that is looked at by a search engine would be the Link Popularity. Basically it is someone elses site haveing a link or path to get to your site. Your site is populare because of how many other sites know of it. Trading links sole purpose is for YOUR OWN site to gain placement on search engines such as GOOGLE, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves and MSN.

Easy ways to get involved in link Popularity:

1) Linking to directories: like Directory Revolution, DMOZ and others. Linking with directories is a great way to find sites like yours and who are willing to trade links because most people who have signed up for a directory usually understand the importance of “Link Popularity”

2)Search Google for keywords that describe your practice and/or location. For Web sites that are well ranked. Where appropriate, submit your Web site to those Web sites.

3)Create a link to me page: Create a page on your site to notify others that you are aware of the benefits of link popularity and are looking for link partners. Once you start adding links to your site be sure to come up with a good management system for keeping in track of those who have linked and those who have not.

4)Download and use the Google Toolbar to track the popularity and traffic rank of your Web site, as well as other Web sites of interest. Click here to download the google toolbar.Click here to download the google toolbar.

Does your site read well?

Keyword Density is how many search words are mentioned on your page. For example if your site is about real estate in Orange County then your Target Keyword should be “Orange County Real Estate” Now this phrase should be mentioned within your pages at least 3-8% of the total text that is on that page. This is how a search engine can tell what your site’s content and how to index you in a search.

Here are some examples of sites that use good keyword density.

Drew and Linda Hartanov Beth Daly Ron Zemetres There is a fine line between spamming a search engine by repeatedly typing in “Orange County Real Estate” and the 3-8% which that text should appear. If you are ever in doubt you can use tools like This free Keyword Density Analyzer. Here are a few site examples to see what other busy people just like you are doing for keyword density.

Keyword Density

Keyword density is important since search engines use this information to categorize a site’s theme, and to determine which terms this site is relevant to — the perfect keyword density will help archive higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly (too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might get flagged for ‘keyword-spamming’).

Keyword density is the ratio of a keyword or key phrases to the total number of words on that page. It is one of the most critical aspects of successful search engine optimization. To improve your search engine ranking potential, your keyword density must be just right. To calculate your keyword density, divide the total number of words on your page by the number of times your primary keyword or key phrase appears. Keyword density is critical when outlining the keyword portion of your search engine optimization strategy.

Naturally, there is a fine line between strategically scattering these keywords throughout your content versus grouping them all together, separated by commas. The latter is known as spamming and you will get penalized for doing it. Don’t think you can fool the search engines —- they have the technology to figure out these little tricks.

1) Incorporate your Meta tags into your keyword phrases on your site. People often forget that search engines will spider the heading Meta tags first because they proceed and stand out from your main site content.

2) Write keyword-rich content that not only satisfies the search engine algorithms but is equally informative for customers visiting your site. This is the most difficult part of writing your content - but also the most critical.

3) Try to write at least 300 words for each page on your site. Again, the more content you have the better chance you will have to include those all-important keywords you diligently researched and ultimately selected.

4) Too often we see content saturated with too many keywords that, as popular as they may be, just don’t relate to the site itself. Avoid doing this - it will only irritate potential customers.

The Right Ratio The most essential part of optimizing keyword density is using the correct ratio of keywords-total words on your page. Keyword density ratios are discussed as a percentage. A good range for keyword density for a target keyword is 2% to 6%. Meaning, when you divide the number of times you used a keyword on your page by the total number of words on your page you should get a percent somewhere between 2 and 6.

The Wrong Ratio Having a too high or too low keyword density can be to your page’s detriment. If the density is too low your page will be considered an irrelevant result for that keyword phrase. But don’t be fooled into thinking a higher keyword density equals a more relevant result. Search engines combat spam pages by penalizing pages with a too high keyword density, or keyword: total word ratio.

Meta What????

What is a Meta Tag? A meta tag is a hidden description about your site solely used for web crawlers to help catagorize and index your site in a search.

Do’s and Don’ts for meta tag use.

Some dos and don’ts:

Do use keyword research tools like Overture’s Search Suggestion tool and Wordtracker to find 2-3 word key phrases to target.

Do use 3-4 keywords or 2-3 keyword phrases in the Title Tag - the most critical tag for rankings. Remember the words farthest to the left have more “weight.” You might want to move the company name to the end, unless it includes targeted keywords.

Do create keyword combinations specific to each page on your site based on the page text. Think in terms of themes or subcategories. Example, if you have a garden e-commerce site, for the “bulbs” page use specific keywords like: fall bulbs supplier, tulip bulbs, flowering bulbs.

Do change your meta tags seasonally to include holidays and seasonal changes. Start about 6 weeks before the targeted month or holiday to ensure time for the search engines to pick up the changes in time.

Don’t stuff keywords into your tags. More is not always better and can get you banned.

Don’t use the same word more than 3 times in the keyword meta tag, and avoid using the same word consecutively. By omitting commas, you can create more combinations and avoid overusing the same words.

Don’t target generic, one-word keywords with extreme competition, for example, gardens or gardening.

Don’t make your title tag one long string of keywords. Make it a readable sentence or phrase.

Meta tags can help you round out your rankings in addition to other factors like page content (important) and link popularity. Do your research and use them wisely. They may not be dead, but meta tags certainly are a part of the overall picture in SEO.

Social Networking and SEO

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

The best way to start all of this is to sign up to different Social Networking sites such as Myspace or Facebook. It is quick, easy and very painless in signing up and getting started with your profile.

There are many premade layouts, themes and skins for Myspace so if you are not the best with web design and CSS you can use one of these and edit it but be sure to include plenty of back links to your website all over the page using anchor text for keywords for your site.

Once you have built your profile / page you have to remember you need to keep up to date with other users and especially people who visit your page.

The best way to do this is to constantly add new content which is relevant to the people / audience who view your profile to keep them interesting and maybe adding you as a friend (There is a link to your profile, in return links to your site from there)

Relationships With Other Community Members

Just having a profile on these sites will help you with SEO slightly you can get involved with discussions and debates about certain things. If your website is based on say “Computer Repair” then take a look for articles, posts and forums within this niche. If somebody has a problem with their PC then try your best to help them out. This will not only get a back link to your site but it will also give a great representation of your services to other members and you can maybe sneak a few keywords in here or there along the way.

So I Have Many Friends, Now What?

Once you have built up relationships with other members you can start to advertise to them with things like Bulletins. I don’t suggest you go onto all of their profiles and leave comments with big pictures saying “Hey, have you seen our new site” as people will just get annoyed with you.

If you use press releases within Bulletins then it is a great way to let hundreds of people see your articles and content which will in turn persuade them to take a look at your site (You can also sneak another couple of backlinks in there)

Using Facebook for SEO

Facebook is great in the way that it sends out alerts everytime you make even the slightest change to your profile. If you add a picture, add a comment or do anything it will tell everybody about it.

This means when you update a link, everybody will be told about it and 95% of the time if they are your friend they will take a look at it to see what you have been up to (People are nosey like that)

As well as having school friends, work colleagues you can also do a search for people by interests etc. So if you run a band website you can do a search to see who likes the same band and keep them up to date with new articles on yoru site which they will be keen to read. This type of traffic is the best sort because it is genuine traffic and people have an interest in the content.

How to beat competitors using SEO

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

It does not matter what your business does, it will have competitors. If it is from selling baby clothes to web design there will always be people trying to be cheaper and better than you. If they are online they will be fighting with you for that number one spot in Google and to be able to beat them, you must know how to successfully compete.

Search Engine Optimization is a hugely important way in which you can compete with your competitors online but to be able to do these you need to know who you are up against just as much as you know about your products and services.

You have to take a look at competitor’s sites and come up with a list of all of the sites that may be selling the same thing or offering the same services. Look out for the ones at the top of search engine lists as these are the ones that are obviously doing well. While you are on the site be sure to take a look at the design, keywords used and anything else that could make this site the top of Google. You could also do a cheeky check of their back links with a back link checker to see where they are linked to, and maybe as for your link to be on there too.

When you have done your research you should then start to search for ways to increase the SEO Value of your site by thinking of better keywords that will be more effective, different content, maybe a new layout that is SEO friendly and anything else that you can think of to make you stand out above your competitor. This may take some time and it is not a one off, you need to do this regularly to stay better than the rest.

As well as trying to look at other’s ideas you should try to come up with things that your competitors haven’t thought of yet. Different and new ideas will increase your position and ranking but make sure this is tested and successful before you depend too much on it.

Keep going over your research findings and decide what is good and what is lame and keep an eye on what your competitors are trying out. If you know your competitors you are halfway to being a success.

How to Design a Website for SEO

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

Here are a few tips that will help you design your website for SEO:

More Text: Search engine spiders catalog words – not flash videos, images or other media. Therefore, make sure you have enough text in your web pages for search engines to index. If you’re going to use above-mentioned materials in your web pages, be sure to give them ALT tags (i.e. alternative text).

Relevant Keywords: The quantity of words is not enough; quality also matters. Thus, be sure to include relevant keywords in your web pages’ text. This way, your web pages will be indexed and filed under relevant keywords and people who are doing a search using such relevant keywords have a greater chance of finding your website. Be sure to use these keywords in the ALT tags mentioned above.

Internal Links or Site Map: The way your web pages are connected is important. Make sure that your pages are logically (and semantically) connected through your internal links. This makes it easier for search engines to index all of your web pages and using the right keywords. Moreover, be sure there are no broken links in your site.

Back Links: The links that point toward your site is also important – especially if they come from websites which are indexed under keywords which are relevant to yours (i.e. semantically related to the keywords you’ve used in your site). The higher the rank (importance) of the web pages linking to your web pages, moreover, the bigger weight your pages gain for SEO.

Anchor Texts: In relation to the above, it would be better if links pointing towards your site are actually anchor texts. An anchor text like “tank tops” that points towards your online apparel store is more important than a link that says “http://www.nameofyourstore.com.”

digiXMAS Article Submitter - This is a great tool used for submitting articles to around 1000 article directories at the same time. It will register you to the directory, it will access your email and activate the registration and will then submit the article to many, many sites.

The software is free but there is a small charge of around $10 per article for submission (Which is a steal for around 1000 article directory submissions)

7 Steps Linking For Fun And Profit

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

Linking is the most basic way of getting high ranking in search engines now. Despite how search engine optimization changes, the number of links still decides your popularity. Other than that, it also enables you to receive a higher page rank, and that gives you an edge of earning an extra income, just by inserting a link to other websites.

If you want others to link to you, of course you need to provide very good or interesting content on your web site. If people doesn’t really care much about the content of the website, then it’s not worthy for them to give you a link.
Nevertheless, linking isn’t that hard after all, there are just a few simple steps that you need to take before requesting a link from the other sites:

1. If you want your site to deliver swarms of high targeted visitors, you need to get links from web sites with a higher popularity. First you need to get a Google toolbar from http://toolbar.google.com to know a page rank of a website - page rank indicates popularity, and from there you continue searching for good page rank sites.

2. So from where do you link to others? You need to create a new page or directory for linking purpose. This lets potential link partners see that you’re someone who is willing serious in exchanging links.

3. Get targeted linking! You should be building links from highly related sites instead of getting non-targeted links from any websites. If your site is about gardening, you wouldn’t want to exchange links with a website about fishing, it doesn’t help much.

4. Before you request a link from the other websites, put their links in your web site first. You must be extra polite in requesting for a reciprocal linking, give and you shall receive! It is the most important thing having a link to your potential link partner before them linking to you. People are often lazy to do things, and if you already have a link to your potential link partner’s site, not only it gives them motivation, it gives them an urge of linking back to you as well.

5. Follow up. If you have not received a reply after 2-3 days, send a polite follow up. Nevertheless, always be polite and don’t demand anything. When you do this right, most probably people will be glad to link to your site.

6. Exchange for only quality links. You don’t want link farms - sites with only links but no content, web sites with really low page ranks. Try and search for a websites with a minimum of 4-5 page rank, this way you ensure that you’ll have a quality page rank as well.

7. Try asking your linking partners to put a keyword targeted anchor text when linking to you. An anchor text is the text highlighted in blue and underline, and when you click on it you’ll be directed to another site. In other words, it’s the hyperlinked text.

Let’s assume that your website is about gardening, then kindly request your linking partners to link in this way: If you want to learn Gardening with Steve, you can visit his site about tips for Gardening and Botanical Plants. Notice the words “Gardening and Botanical Plants?” You kindly request your link partners to make that the anchor text when linking to you. Google will favor your site with highly related anchor texts! S

tart requesting links once your website is ready, everyday push yourself to request links from at least 2 webmasters, if all of them agrees, in a year you’ll have 730 quality links.

Are you interested in increasing your Google PageRank?

Files under SEO | Leave a Comment

You should be. If you have never heard of Google PageRank and you have established a website, it is high time you learned about Google PageRank and what it means to you and the success of your website. Having an excellent Google PageRank can either make or break a website in terms of overall success. Let’s take a look at what Google PageRank is and why it is so important to every website owner.

First, a word about the Google Search engine: Google is one of the most popular search engines on the Internet. Not only is Google’s search engine the absolute largest of its kind, the company focuses on making web information easy to access and even easier to find. Google has designed a unique system and the search engine has yet to be surpassed in terms of the information it provides.

Google has grown immensely since its early beginning in 1996 and it will continue to be a predominant force on the Internet. Furthermore, because Google offers easy access to immediate information, they own one of the top Internet search engines in the world. Thus, it would serve a webmaster well to become familiar with the Google PageRank process-the Google PageRank is an algorithm that is based on inbound links and other factors and will ultimately determine the location of listing of your website in the Google Search Engine.

What precisely is Google PageRank?
Google PageRank is a process the search engine’s uses as a way of selecting sites to answer specific queries. Basically, when an Internet user submits a query, the Google search engine will attempt to match websites to the query that has been posed. Yet, there is a bit more to this simple science than the act of submitting a query suggests.

Rather, behind the scenes, Google uses specific algorithms to determine if a site specifically address a web user’s needs by analyzing the content of a site by keyword and by the number of inbound links associated with the site-every inbound link is viewed as a vote and the more votes one has, in conjunction with the more keywords one has, the higher their Google PageRank is.

Why is Your Google PageRank Significant?
What does it mean to you when your Google PageRank is increased? Does it really matter what your Google PageRank is at all? You bet it does-the higher your Google PageRank is the higher on a search engine’s listing your website will appear.

Thus, if you are looking for top billing, especially in a search engine as popular as the one Google offers, you will definitely want to maximize your efforts of getting your website visible and improving your PageRank is the best way to accomplish such a task.

Moreover, the higher you appear on the search engine listing offered by Google, or many other search engines, the easier your website is to find. Essentially this equates to more web traffic for your website and if you are running an online business, more web traffic ultimately means more profit for you.

Making Google PageRank Improvements
If you are looking to improve your Google PageRank you can do so by starting a link campaign. A link campaign can help you increase more inbound links to your website and in turn, more inbound links will increase your Google PageRank.

How do you start a link campaign? Well, you can go the hard route by scouring the Internet to find websites similar to your own. Or, you can make your link campaign a far easier process by using the services afforded to you by PageRank Browser and locate all of the best, themed websites on the Internet with relative ease.

Of course, there are few things you must bear in mind when you begin your link campaign. Google actually rates various links and holds some links higher than others. In other words, if you link to 100 less than popular sites you may increase your Google PageRank.

Conversely, if you link to 50 extremely popular sites and you get inbound links in return, you may significantly increase your Google PageRank because the most popular sites on the Internet are linking directly too you.

Thus, when you begin your link campaign, keep this popularity issue in the back of your mind. Further, know that in using PageRank Browser, you will be able to locate the popular sites with ease, and thereby significantly increase your Google PageRank.

About Inbound Links

Quite frankly, some links that you will establish will be better than others. You goal will be to establish the best links possible by examining the quality of inbound links. Various webmaster tools can help you determine the quality of the reciprocal links you establish. You will want to work hard at establishing direct inbound links to your site-direct links from already popular websites.

You will also need to establish links to websites that are similar to yours-remember the search engine algorithm used by Google to determine your page rank is based on relevance. You will also find that the location of inbound links is of significant importance. For example, when you establish inbound links, those links that are buried deep within a website will have less influence on the ranking of your website in Google’s search engine. What is clear is that your Google PageRank is of significant importance.

Thus, every effort should be used to improve your Google PageRank-with the use of webmaster tools and the use of sites like PageRank Browser you should have little difficulty getting your PageRank right where it should be.

Therefore, you will not only improve your PageRank you will improve the web traffic you receive by leaps and bounds. Moreover, your improved PageRank will make you a force on the Internet to be reckoned with-you will have a highly recognizable website for all your efforts and you will ultimately improve your online business’ bottom line.
